We Get to Choose

| written by Alece Ronzino | 5 comments

The start of a new year doesn’t hold any magical powers for fresh starts. Unfortunately there’s no bippity-boppity-boo that occurs on January 1st to bring to life the whole “new year, new me” mantra. Nah… It’s just another day. Just another month.

But…

The start of a new year does hold the promise of clean slates and new horizons and blank pages waiting to be filled. It drips with potential, as we look back to take stock and look ahead at what’s in front of us: both known and unknown. It bursts wide open with the ever-present reminder that while there’s so much that’s out of our control, we still get to choose. We get to choose how we will respond to what comes our way. We get to choose who we want to be — in the midst of the joys as well as the heartaches. We get to choose what we want to set our sights on.

We have those choices always. This time of year is just really good at reminding me to be more intentional with my decisions.

I’d love to hear what word you’ve chosen to focus on this year, and why. If you feel like sharing, please do!
