3 Unconventional Ways to Revive your One Word

| written by Marva Smith | 6 comments

Has your One Word lost the spark it used to have?

Earlier in the year you were probably so excited about your new word. But by midyear, it’s a completely different story.

You might be wondering, “How can this one little word make a difference anyway?” Sure, you’ve ditched resolutions, but can you really make this One Word stick? Can it really have the impact you’d hoped for?

One of the best ways to revive your One Word is to keep it front and center.

How?

Well, I’m glad you asked.

Here are three of my favorite ways to keep my One Word fresh and relevant throughout the year.

1. Create a Vision Board Using Your Word

I incorporate my One Word and images of my desired future into my vision board. I also choose scriptures that include my word and put those references on my board. You can do the same thing with quotes as well.

Once you’ve created your board don’t tuck it away in the closet either. Find a prominent place where you’ll see it daily. One glance at your vision board will remind you of the journey you’re on and motivate you to keep going.

And if you’re thinking that it’s too late to create a vision board, think again. Any day is a good day for a fresh start. And midyear is the perfect time to clarify your goals and get ready to finish the year strong. So, go for it!

2. Show your Artistic Side

Why not create an art piece incorporating your One Word that you can display throughout the year? A collage, a framed pencil drawing incorporating your word, a leather bracelet — these are just some ideas to get you started. The sky’s the limit.

And by the way, while it’s easier to have someone create a piece of art for you, there’s something about being intimately involved in the creative process that endears your word to you. Try it and see for yourself.

3. Don’t Just Stop at One Word

But wait, isn’t this the One Word website?! Hear me out.

What if that one little word inspired other words as well?

What if you crafted your goals based on your One Word? So, building on your One Word, you could have a string of words (goals) that makes clear what you want to achieve. Can you imagine how powerful that would be?

And here’s a free tip. As you write your goals, avoid focusing on just one area of your life. For example, don’t just set goals around money. What about your health, relationships, and so on? Keep it balanced. I use the brainstorming worksheets in my Spark Success Goals Planner (more about that in a minute) to set goals around the seven main areas of my life. And I use my One Word as the starting point for each of those goals.

So, what started out as One Word — small and maybe insignificant to some — begins to have a bigger impact than you could ever imagine!

Keep the momentum going.

Speaking of goals, this time of year I like to do something special for those in the One Word 365 community. Perhaps I’m a bit biased (having ditched resolutions many years ago), but I truly believe choosing One Word for the year is so much more effective. I also happen to know if you’re not careful, your One Word could suffer the same ill fate as resolutions. That’s why I’m coming alongside you to make sure you’re successful in sticking with your word for the year.

Earlier, I mentioned the Spark Success Goals Planner which I use to brainstorm my goals. This year I created a companion handbook to take the guesswork out of goal planning. Until July 6, when you purchase the 2018-2019 Spark Success Goals Planner, you’ll get the bonus Spark Success Handbook — Goal Planning Made Simple absolutely free! This 25-page handbook by itself is worth $15 and is chock full of tips and tricks for simple yet effective goal-setting. I take you through the exact process I follow for setting goals and living on purpose, starting with… you guessed it…my One Word.

Wait, there’s more…

One lucky reader will also benefit from a one-on-one coaching session to finish the year strong. The 45-minute Spark Success goal review session is more than a coaching discovery call. In this session I help you get laser-focused about your year, what’s been working, what’s not and what you need to help you stay on track for the rest of 2018. The Spark Success session is valued at $150, but one lucky reader will get it free!

Simply purchase the 2018/9 Spark Success Goals Planner here and comment below to let us know that you did. A random winner will be drawn on July 6 and notified by email.

In the meantime, we’d love to hear how you take your One Word with you throughout the year. What ways have you found to make your One Word come alive? Go ahead and tell us in the comments below.
