______________

Believe it or not, it all started with Veggie Tales.

I had heard of this “one word thing” and thought I would give it a try. Late 2011, I tossed around a few words that I really liked for 2012. However, my son was watching the story of the generous Saint Nicholas (the Veggie Tales version), and I could just feel God touching my heart.

“Give”.

I’m not a naturally generous person, so I was surprised — and honestly, hesitant — to choose that one word for 2012. However, as soon as I felt God’s touch on my heart, I knew this word was planted by Him. “Give” turned out to be a word I needed to hold on to this past year, a word that would challenge me, and a word that blessed me immensely.

Giving is actually a way to love others, to be the hands and feet of Christ. I never really understood that until my “one word” experience in 2012. I am a faith blogger and blog designer, and one of the first ideas I had was to offer to create free one word blog buttons. I honestly expected 10 people to respond when I tossed out the offer.

Instead, 250 people responded.

I had to laugh. God has a great sense of humor, and it seemed that He was ready to start our first lesson on “giving”.

That small act, just a simple blog button customized with each blogger’s word and colors to match their blog was such a blessing…. to me. I never realized that just a small, insignificant gift could matter so much to so many. The emails I received overwhelmingly blessed me. I just sat in my home, at my computer, and cried tears of joy at each note of encouragement.

When God lays a word on your heart, sweet friends, He has a reason.

This year, my word was a complete shock to me, and I have no idea what will happen. I’m chronicling my health journey of swapping junk food for real foods and would love for you to join me.

Also, do you know what would make my whole day? If I could create a “one word” button for you! I would really love that, and I pray that you will visit this post with all of the details on how YOU can bless me by allowing me to bless you with a free one word blog button.

No strings attached.

….because that’s what this community is all about. I think that if you can “see” your word, it helps inspire and focus your heart. I would love to be a part of that ministry. To request a free button, simply read this post for details.

Happy 2013, sweet friends!
