No One Can Take Your Word Away From You

When they asked me to write a blog post for OneWord365, I about fell out of my chair. I texted a good friend the exciting news, but I also added, “I am not a writer.”

I am, however, a lover of words. Ever since I was a little girl, I can remember loving words. I excelled at games like Scrabble and Boggle. Words are so powerful. I choose to use them in a positive way.

Last year was my first experience with creating word of the year necklaces in our business. I was fascinated with the words that our customers were choosing and found myself reading the stories behind the words out loud to my husband.

My word for 2013 was dream. I wore that word around my neck often during the year. When someone would look at me like I was crazy for one of my many ideas, I would gently rub that pendant in between 2 fingers and smile. No one can take your word away from you.

My word for 2014 is perspective. I am the Mom to 2 teenagers and life can get a little crazy sometimes. I need to put things into perspective and watch how they play out, rather than try to control the situation and have the kids do what I think is right. That will be an interesting challenge for me this year. But I am ready to take it on.

Find a word that motivates you, makes you smile, challenges you as a person, and most importantly, reminds you that you do not have to be perfect. There is no right or wrong word. You are you and your word is your word.

What is your word for 2014?
